Kat Donnelly certainly does not look like she just got out of bed when she arrives at Montgoris Dining Hall early Thursday afternoon. She arrives for her interview for multimedia communications looking totally relaxed, dressed in skinny jeans, a Free People top, and light brown cowboy boots. Kat greets me with a sweet smile and hands me a daffodil, her favorite flower, that she picked from the landscaping on campus. We pick a table and put our stuff down; daffodil included, and help ourselves to a couple slices of cheese pizza. Kat later adds that pizza is her food of choice from the dining hall here on campus.
On warm days, Kat can often be found outside of Hollis Hall lounging on the quad enjoying the fresh spring air, her favorite season because she says “it gives her hope that summer is just around the corner.” Plus, her birthday happens to be in the same season on the first of April. Kat came to St. John’s University to pursue her dream of becoming a magazine editor and figured New York City was a more fitting location than her hometown of Old Tappan, New Jersey, a small town in the northern region of the state. Ever since she was little Kat was fascinated journalism and the magazine industry aspiring to follow in the footsteps of legendary magazine editor Helen Gurley Brown.
Now that the semester is winding down I asked her what her plans were of the summer. She told me she plans on going back home and working as a lifeguard at the community swimming pool near her house. She also mentioned spending some time at the beach with her friends at her family’s beach house they have Sea Side.
